SEATTLE – The Husky women’s tennis team takes its second road trip of the season this weekend, and gets its final preparation in before next week’s ITA National Team Indoor Championships. Washington will visit Boise, Idaho to take on the Broncos on Friday at 4 p.m. Pacific time and then remain in Boise to face 25th-ranked Wisconsin on Saturday, Feb. 4, at 1 p.m.

Washington is off to a 4-0 start but will get a challenge from the 3-0 Broncos and then its first top-25 opponent of the season in the Badgers.

UW has used the same starting singles lineup for all six matches thus far, going 21-3 overall in dual singles matches. Astrid Olsen, Jennifer Kerr, and Melissa Sakar are all 4-0 in singles play thus far, while Hikaru Sato, Sarah-Maude Fortin, and Erika Matsuda are each 3-1.

Boise State is off to a 3-0 start with wins over Montana State, Idaho State, and Lewis-Clark State. Last season the Broncos were 8-8 overall and 4-6 in the Mountain West Conference.

The Badgers moved into the rankings at No. 25 in the most recent poll. Wisconsin is 4-2 but both losses were to top-five teams in No. 2 North Carolina (1-6) and No. 5 Duke (1-4). Xinyu Cai won at No. 5 singles for the Badgers against both ranked opponents. Wisconsin also has wins over Marquette, Samford, SMU, and Northern Illinois. Two Badgers are ranked in singles: No. 59 Maria Sholokhova, and No. 82 Ava Markham.

Next week UW returns home to host one of the biggest events of the college tennis year, the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, at Nordstrom Tennis Center and Seattle Tennis Club, from Feb. 10-13.
