Huskies Extend Stephenson Through 2027

SEATTLE – Head Coach Robin Stephenson has signed a contract extension to keep her at Washington through at least the 2027 season, announced UW Director of Athletics Jennifer Cohen. Stephenson led the Huskies to the NCAA Championships in 2022 for the third time in her tenure, and she is the 2019 Pac-12 Coach of the Year.

“I am thrilled for this opportunity to continue serving as the head coach of our Women’s Tennis program for years to come,” said Stephenson. “I couldn’t be more excited about the future and all of the amazing things we are going to accomplish. We’ll continue working passionately to develop our student-athletes on and off the court and to create history in our program. Go Dawgs!!”

“Robin has done a tremendous job leading Washington women’s tennis,” said Cohen. “She has instilled excellence into every facet of her program and the results in the classroom and on the court speak for themselves. We could not be more excited to extend her contract and build on the success she’s had on Montlake.”

Stephenson just completed her eighth season leading the Dawgs, and Washington had a number of historic moments on its way to an NCAA tourney bid. The Huskies won at UCLA for the first time in program history to qualify for ITA National Team Indoors for the first time since 2011. In the classroom, Washington ranked fourth in the Pac-12 Conference in the recently released APR rankings with a score of 992. The women’s team had a 3.82 grade point average for 2022 winter quarter, the highest among all teams in the UW Athletic Department. They followed that up with a 3.74 GPA this spring quarter.

In the final match of the year, a 4-2 NCAA tourney loss to Baylor in Texas, senior Vanessa Wong became the winningest Husky in history, as she got her 112th career singles win, breaking the previous record that had stood for 21 years. Wong ended her season in the ITA singles rankings for the fifth year in a row.

Washington has made the NCAA tournament in three of the past five seasons in which it was held. The Dawgs were also well on their way in 2020 when the season was canceled, as they were 11-3 and ranked 27th nationally. The Huskies reached the Round of 16 in 2019 for the first time since 2009, and tied for second in the Pac-12, the best finish in program history.
