Huskers Travel to Arkansas, Oklahoma State – University of Nebraska

After a split weekend in Kentucky, the Nebraska men’s tennis team (3-1) takes on two more road matches this weekend, visiting Arkansas (5-2) and Oklahoma State (0-4). The Huskers will start in Fayetteville to face the Razorbacks on Friday, Jan. 31 at 5:30 p.m. CT. Then, on Sunday, Feb. 2 the Big Red meet the Cowboys on the courts at 1 p.m. CT.

The Huskers are 3-1 on the spring season, taking down Drake, Bellarmine and Santa Clara, but falling to #20 Arizona State. On the doubles court, No. 1 duo Anton Shepp and Lars Johann are off to a 2-0 start, helping serve the Sun Devils their first loss of a doubles point. In singles, senior Calvin Mueller is 3-0 this spring, taking two of his wins in straight sets. As a team, NU is 16-4 in singles this season, the four losses all coming from Arizona State.

Arkansas (5-2, 0-0 SEC)
History: ARK leads, 6-0
The Razorbacks are 5-2 heading into this weekend, matching their seven-match start from the 2023-24 season. Arkansas is also coming off an NCAA Tournament appearance and an end-of-season ranking of No. 31, a program best since 2016. Arkansas was 21-12 in the 2023-24 season, their most wins in a season since 1986, and had a streak of five straight ranked victories. One Razorback is currently ranked, No. 85 Jakub Vrba, a standout freshman from Prague, Czech Republic.

Oklahoma State (0-4, 0-0 Big 12)
History: OSU leads 48-9
The Cowboys are off to a rough 0-4 spring start, after they had started the 2023-24 season 4-0. Chosen to finish fifth in the Big 12, OSU capped off their prior campaign making it to the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament. Five Cowboys returned for the 2024-25 season, headlined by All-American and No. 108 Isaac Becroft. Also nationally ranked is Cowboy duo Pini/Bracks. The program also added six newcomers and two coaches, Sergey Avdeyev and assistant coach Max Stewart. Oklahoma State will host Saint Louis on Friday prior to playing the Huskers. OSU went 18-10 in the previous season.

In the fall, the Big Red competed at five tournaments, garnering 48 singles and 13 doubles wins. Junior Lars Johann finished the season claiming runner-up at the Big Ten Individuals tournament. Senior Calvin Mueller was selected for the Big Ten Preseason Player to Watch list after the fall season. Junior Nikolay Sysoev led the team in fall singles success, going 11-4 (.733).
