Iga Swiatek’s No.1 ranking remains untouchable for the foreseeable future – the Polish star leads World No.2 Ons Jabeur by 5845 points heading into the Australian Open – but the race for No.1 on the men’s side is set to heat up again in Melbourne.
With World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz out of action due to injury, four players con overtake the Spaniard at the top of the rankings.
Here’s how the scenarios play out, per the ATP:
Casper Ruud, currently ranked third, will become No.1 if he wins the title or if he reaches the final with Novak Djokovic and Stefanos Tsitsipas not winning the title.
Subsequently, Djokovic and Tsitsipas can each rise to No.1 if they win the title in Melbourne, while Alcaraz will retain the No.1 ranking none of the above scenarios play out.
