CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Alexander Hoogmartens of the UCLA men’s tennis team learned how his first NCAA Championships singles tournament would begin Sunday, as the 64-player bracket was released.
Play begins Monday from the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Hoogmartens meets Brian Cernoch of North Carolina at 11:30 a.m. PT. A round will be completed each day until a champion is crowned May 28.
All matches shall be the best-of-three sets. No-ad scoring and a 7-point tiebreaker (first to seven points, must win by two points) at six-games-all will be used for all matches.
Hoogmartens earned an at-large berth in the field after going 14-6 in singles matches dating back to the fall. He went 6-3 against nationally-ranked singles opponents, including wins against then-No. 2 Arthur Fery of Stanford and then-No. 14 Luc Fomba of TCU.
Matches will be streamed on the TennisONE app.
