SAN DIEGO – Sophomore Alexander Hoogmartens of the UCLA men’s tennis team begins play Wednesday at the ITA National Fall Championships, hosted by the Barnes Tennis Center.
Hoogmartens takes on Casey Hoole of the University of South Carolina at 9 a.m. PT. Hoogmartens earned his spot in the field after reaching the singles final round of last month’s ITA Southwest Regional Championships, also in San Diego. Hoogmartens, ranked No. 23 among singles players by the ITA, is 5-2 on the season. He earned each of his five wins at the ITA Southwest Regionals, where he prevailed against top-50 counterparts Gustaf Strom of Arizona and Tim Zeitvogel of Pepperdine, among others. Hoogmartens went 14-7 in his debut season with the Bruins, qualifying for the NCAA Championships singles tournament in the process.
UCLA is also set to send a contingent to the Jack Kramer Fall Invite in Rolling Hills Estates, Calif. Matches begin Friday and run through Sunday at the Jack Kramer Tennis Club.
