University of Louisville graduate Sergio Hernandez competed in the ATP Challenger Tour’s Directv Open Bogota on Monday, July 4 in Bogota, Colombia.
The Medellin, Colombia native earned a spot in the main draw where he faced the tournament’s No. 2 seeded player, Juan Pablo Ficovich in the round of 32. After falling 6-2 in the first set, Hernandez battled to a 6-4 win in the second set to push the match to a decisive third set in which Ficovich prevailed 6-3.
Hernandez, who earned his degree in sport administration from UofL in May 2022, finished his career at Louisville with 64 singles wins. As a senior, he compiled a 17-3 dual match singles record, playing primarily at No. 4 and helped the Cardinals earn an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament and reach the semifinals of the ACC Championship for the first time in program history.
