Hance, Wagle Set for ITA National Fall Championships


SAN DIEGO – Sophomores Kimmi Hance and Elise Wagle of the UCLA women’s tennis team are set to begin play at the ITA National Fall Championships Wednesday on the courts of Barnes Tennis Center.

Hance qualified for the singles and doubles fields, with Wagle joining her for the latter after the pair won the ITA Southwest Regional Championships doubles title last month, also in San Diego.

No. 98 Hance meets No. 56 Elaine Chervinsky in Wednesday’s opening round. First serve is scheduled for 9 a.m. PT. Currently 8-3 on the season, Hance won five consecutive matches en route to a runner-up finish at the ITA Southwest Regionals. She went 15-3 during her freshman campaign, including a 12-1 mark in dual matches.

Hance and Wagle picked up five wins of their own at the Southwest Regionals, capping their run with a 7-5, 2-6, 1-0(7) victory against No. 6 Savannah Broadus and Janice Tjen of Pepperdine for the crown. The Bruins, seeded fourth, take on Erin Richardson and Makenna Thiel of California at 5:30 p.m.

UCLA will also be represented at the Kramer Classic, hosted by the Jack Kramer Tennis Club in Rolling Hills Estates, Calif. Matches are scheduled to start Monday and will go through Sunday. Freshman Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer, junior Vanessa Ong and seniors Caroline Goldberg and Sasha Vagramov will be in action.
