Hamner Wins ITA East Sectional Championship in Singles – University of South Carolina Athletics

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. –  The Gamecocks earned recognition on the final day of the ITA East Sectional Championships as senior Sarah Hamner became the singles champion after winning the final round of the tournament.

Kaitlyn Carnicella started off strong for her first set against UNC’s Carson Tanguilig, sweeping the Tarheel 6-0. The junior then fell 4-6 for the second set. The Gamecock attempted to rally back during the final set, sending Tanguilig to a tiebreaker set but ultimately fell 6(3)-7.

Hammer advanced to the finals due to a walkover where she faced Tanguilig in the final round. The Gamecock seamlessly won the first set, topping the Tarheel 6-1. Hamner officially claimed the event title after claiming the second set 6-4.

Carson Tanguilig (UNC) def. Kaitlyn Carnicella (SC) 0-6, 6-4, 7-6 (3)

Main Draw Stage – Finals

Sarah Hamner (SC) def. Carson Tanguilig 6-1, 6-4

Hamner and Carnicella will compete in the NCAA Individual Championships in Waco, Texas on November 18-24.
