SAN FRANCISCO – Gustaf Strom was awarded Pac-12 Player of the Week for his first time ever after stellar performances against #10 Baylor on Friday, Feb. 10 and #7 Texas on Sunday, Feb. 12.
Strom, a junior hailing from Stockholm, Sweden, won both of his singles matches in straight sets and assisted in the doubles point capture against Baylor whom Arizona went on to beat for the first time in program history.
Alongside Herman Hoeyeraal at three doubles, Strom swiftly took down Christopher Frantzen and Juampi Mazzuchi (BU) 6-1 putting the Wildcats one step closer to securing the historic victory. The Wildcat then went on to defeat Zsomber Velcz (BU) 6-1, 6-2 at three singles and was one of two Cats to win their singles match against Texas. Strom bested #65 Micah Braswell (UT) 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 3 lineup spot.
Men’s Tennis enters a bye week as they reset and prepare for the Blue Gray Classic in Montgomery, Ala. Feb. 25-26. They are back at home Friday, March 3 for a doubleheader against NAU and Gonzaga.
