KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Purdue women’s tennis team is still alive in doubles after another day of the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championship.
Guevara and Milic are still fighting in the main doubles draw. The duo won their match 8-3 over Holly Staff and Dasha Kourkina from Vanderbilt to earn their spot in the quarterfinals. They will face the No. 47 doubles team from Tennessee composed of Eleonora Molinaro and Daria Kuczer.
Sophomore Carmen Gallardo Guevara fought through another tie break to win her first singles match of the day in two sets. Imani Graham from Xavier tied the set at 6-6 forcing a tiebreak. Guevara won 7-2 and fought through the second set to win 6-4. In her second match, she made it clear that she was not going down without a fight. Gallardo forced both sets to a tie break, but her run in the main draw came to an end after losing to No. 96 Elza Tomase of Tennessee 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-2).
In the consolation draw, redshirt senior Liz Norman and sophomore Tara Katarina Milic both continue on for another day. Norman played through a third set after losing the second to win her match against Camila Soares from Memphis 6-2, 6-3, 10-7. Milic collected her victory through two straight sets against Blessing Nwaozuzu of Xavier 6-4, 6-3.
Norman and freshman Kennedy Gibbs will play extra matches on Saturday as well.
