STANFORD, Calif. – Honored for his years of excellence on the Farm as a student-athlete and a coach, the Taube Family Director of Men’s Tennis Paul Goldstein was inducted to the United States Tennis Association’s Northern California Hall of Fame on Friday, June 10.
Goldstein is one of the most productive student-athletes in Stanford history, winning four NCAA Championships from 1995-98. He was the first player in NCAA history to compete as a starting member of four consecutive national championship teams. He is a five-time All-American, a three-time Pac-10 Champion and was the 1998 Pac-10 Player of the Year.
Prior to returning to Stanford as head coach in 2014, Goldstein enjoyed a professional career in which he was ranked in the top-40 in the world in doubles and the top-60 in singles. He reached the third round of Wimbledon in both 1999 and 2000 and the semifinals of the 2005 US Open in doubles.
Goldstein has won 131 matches as Stanford’s head coach, boasting wins in more than 70 percent of the Cardinal’s matches since 2014. Stanford has won two Pac-12 championships under Goldstein with an NCAA berth in each of his seasons leading the program. Eight players have earned All-American status under Goldstein’s watch.
The hall of fame induction is not the first for Goldstein, who was added to the ITA Collegiate Tennis Hall of Fame in 2013.
Stanford men’s tennis went 19-6 in 2021-22, advancing to the NCAA Super Regionals. Arthur Fery, a 2022 All-American, became the program’s first No. 1 ranked player since Bob Bryan, while the team was ranked as high as No. 8 in the country.
