Russia’s invasion of neighboring Ukraine has evoked strong reaction in the tennis world.
Wimbledon banned Russians and Belarusians in condemnation of Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, while some Russians stars, including Andrey Rublev and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, have publicly called for peace.

Russian Anastasia Gasanova expressed a different point of view on social media last weekend.
The world No. 154 took aim at Ukrainians after an explosion on the Kerch Bridge connecting Crimea to Russia.
Russian authorities blame Ukraine for the explosion and have retaliated launching cruise missiles into Ukraine.
Gasanova, who has lived and trained in Kyiv, Ukraine in the past, ripped into Ukrainians in a video translated by Ukrainian Tennis.

“God didn’t give them brains, unfortunately. Why are they so happy?” Gasanova said in an Instagram video post. “If they want to take back Crimea… Breaking is not building.”
The 23-year-old Russian also claimed there was “a coup d’état” in Ukraine in 2014.
“It wasn’t the way you’ve been told… there were mass protests there and, they say, President Viktor Yanukovych fled the country when what happened is that they threatened to kill him,” Gasanova said.
