CARY, N.C. – Freshman Valerie Glozman‘s quarterfinal run highlighted Stanford’s showing at the ITA All-American Championships, the Cardinal’s first competition of the season.

Glozman, who received a wild card into the main draw, knocked off a trio of ranked opponents in No. 56 Alina Shcherbinina (Oklahoma), No. 53 Elizabeth Coleman (Duke) and No. 10 Sarah Hamner (South Carolina) to advance to the quarterfinals and qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship in November.

Seeded fourth in the main draw, Connie Ma picked up a pair of ranked wins over No. 23 Luciana Perry (Ohio State) and No. 70 Sabine Rutlauka (Penn) before a Round of 16 loss to North Carolina’s Tatum Evans. Ma picked up a win in the consolation draw over No. 41 Emma Jackson (Duke), but fell in the consolation quarters to No. 2 Dasha Vidmanova (Georgia). The main draw quartefinalists and consolation finalists earned NCAA singles spots this week.

Alexis Blokhina and Valencia Xu worked their way through qualifying and into the main draw. Blokhina beat No. 106 Sofia Rojas (Georgia) and Kallista Liu (Maryland) to qualify, but dropped her two main-draw matches. Xu picked up three ranked wins on the week – No. 86 Maddy Zampardo (NC State), No. 109 Santa Strombacha (Houston) and No. 51 Kylie Bilchev (Georgia Tech) – as part of a run to the consolation Round of 32.

In doubles, Blokhina and Ma finished one win short of qualifying for the NCAA Doubles Championship, which went to the ITA quarterfinalists. They beat No. 10 Erickson/Sahdiieva (LSU) and No. 34 Bissett/Parra Romero (Florida State), before losing to Broadfoot/Zampardo (NC State).

Glozman and Xu made it out of qualifying with a couple of ranked wins, but dropped both their main draw and consolation matches.

Stanford’s next opportunity to qualify for the NCAA individual championships will be Oct. 11-15 at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships, hosted by Cal, where the two singles finalists and the doubles champions will qualify.

Also over the weekend, Emma Sun and Morgan Shaffer competed at the Cal Fall Invite in Berkeley in both singles and doubles. Sun went 2-1 in singles and Shaffer 1-1. The pair lost both doubles matches.
