Gators Travel to College Station for ITA Kickoff Weekend


COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Florida women’s tennis will hit the road this weekend to participate in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Kickoff Weekend in College Station, Texas.
 

The No. 20 Gators will open with Arizona (3-0, 0-0 PAC-12) on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 3 p.m. ET before facing either No. 4 Texas A&M (3-0, 0-0 SEC) or Florida Atlantic (2-2, 0-0 CUSA) on Sunday at the same time. Whoever advances out of the bracket at Texas A&M will punch their ticket to the Indoor National Championships from Feb. 10-13 in Seattle.
 
THE SERIES VS. ARIZONA

Florida and Arizona meet for the sixth time in program history on Saturday, with UF holding a 4-1 advantage. The teams last met on March 16, 1999, a match that the Gators won, 5-1. On a neutral site, the Orange & Blue hold a 3-1 edge.
 
THE SERIES VS. FAU
Florida and Florida Atlantic have met twice in school history, with the Gators claiming victories in both meetings. The last meeting came on Jan. 24, 2004, with UF claiming a 7-0 win. Both wins came in Gainesville.
 
THE SERIES VS. TAMU

The Gators and their Southeastern Conference foe, Texas A&M, have met 14 times throughout the series history, with UF holding a 9-5 advantage. The two teams met in the SEC semifinals last season for an instant classic that the Aggies held on to win, 4-3. Florida holds a 3-2 mark in College Station.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Florida women’s tennis started the 2023 dual match season with a strong performance, defeating South Florida 6-1 in Tampa last Sunday. After a dominant doubles point win, the Gators picked-up five singles victories, including the first-ever win on court one at Florida for Carly Briggs, en route to the season opening triumph.
 
ITA RANKINGS
After their season-opening at South Florida, the Gators dropped two spots in the latest ITA Rankings, finding themselves at No. 20. Anastasia Sysoeva still sits at No. 63 nationally in singles, while Rachel Gailis and Bente Spee remain No. 58 in the doubles list.
