Gators Add Graduate Transfer Axel Nefve

Nefve comes from Notre Dame and will spend his final year of eligibility as a Gator.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida men’s tennis head coach Bryan Shelton has announced the signing of Notre Dame graduate transfer, Axel Nefve.

“We are so excited to add another outstanding student-athlete to our program,” Shelton said. “Axel has all of the qualities we look for in a student-athlete, and his work ethic and desire to improve will allow him to make this transition seamlessly.”

With the Irish, Nefve qualified for the NCAA Individual Championships twice in singles (2021-22) and once in doubles (2021), advancing to at least the second round of each competition.

A graduate transfer from Delray Beach, Fla., Nefve is a two-time All-ACC First Team selection (2021-22) and one-time All-ACC Second Team member (2019). In addition, he made the 2021 All-ACC Academic Team and has earned five ACC weekly honors during his tenure, including three ACC Player of the Week awards and two ACC Doubles Team of the Week accolades.

In the 2022 season, Nefve compiled a 14-8 overall singles record and 8-7 overall doubles record, ending the year with a win in the NCAA Singles Championships and ranked No. 55 by the ITA.

Helping the Irish to three NCAA Tournament team appearances, Nefve collected a career-high 23 singles wins his freshman season. Playing primarily at No. 1 singles and doubles for Notre Dame, Nefve tallied 48 dual singles and 37 dual doubles victories over his career.

Nefve graduated from the Mendoza College of Business at Notre Dame and plans to receive a masters degree at Florida.

“Axel brings leadership skills that we will lean on right away with a skill set on the court that is very special,” Shelton added. “I’m really looking forward to getting on the court with Axel and helping him reach his goals while we pursue excellence together.”
