Chapel Hill, N.C. – South Carolina women’s tennis got off to a hot start on the first day of action at the ITA Carolina Regional Championships on Thursday. The Gamecocks saw one round of doubles play with both of the team’s pairs advancing to the second round.
In the A1 draw, juniors Olympe Lancelot and Misa Malkin paired up to take on Eeva Ristola and Tasmin Hart of Campbell. The Gamecock duo was dominant, claiming the win 8-1 and improving to 3-1 together on the season.
In the A2 draw, graduates Shahar Biran and Elise Mills faced South Carolina State’s Nalanda Teixeira da Silva and Feriel Mahbouli. South Carolina’s team was again dominant, also winning their match in an 8-1 result.
Both pairs, now in their brackets respective round of 16, will play again tomorrow with an opportunity to advance to the quarterfinals.
The Gamecocks will also begin singles play tomorrow. Malkin and Lancelot will both be in the A1 singles draw with Biran and Mills both in the A2 singles draw.
Action at the Carolina Regional Championships will continue on Friday with both doubles and singles play. Matchups and results will be available on the tournament webpage.
