COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina men’s tennis will be sending six singles and three doubles teams to the Wake Forest Invitational this weekend from Nov. 1 – 3.
No.45 Casey Hoole, Lucas da Silva, No. 117 Jelani Sarr, Atakan Karahan, Max Stenzer and Gabe Avram are entered to compete in singles. The three duos representing the Gamecocks are Connor Thomson and Hoole, No. 82 da Silva and Sarr and Stenzer and Karahan.
Entering this tournament with a 8-3 singles record, da Silva comes off of a solid showing at ITA Regionals two weeks ago where the junior advanced to the quarterfinals before dropping his final match of the tournament against No. 16 Pedro Rodenas of Duke. The duo of da Silva and Jelani Sarr fell shy of advancing to the quarterfinals, making it to Round 16 before dropping their match to a pair from Clemson. For the second-straight season South Carolina had two singles quarterfinalists and one doubles team in the Round of 16.
The Gamecocks are set to face players from Wake Forest, Virginia, Auburn, Clemson, NC State, Charlotte, UNC Greensboro, Cleveland State, College of Charleston, Elon, JMU, NC A&T, NC Central, Tennessee Tech, Furman and Georgia Southern.
The tournament begins on Fri., Nov. 1, at 9:30 a.m. with two rounds of doubles followed by one round of singles. Saturday consists of one round of doubles starting at 9:30 a.m. followed by two rounds of singles. The Invitational concludes on Sunday with one round of singles.
