Gamecocks Conclude Appearance at ITA All-American Championships – University of South Carolina Athletics

Cary, N.C.  – South Carolina women’s tennis has concluded their run at the ITA All-American Championships in the semifinal round. Senior Ayana Akli fell in the main draw consolation semifinals to wrap up the Gamecock’s stay at the tournament.

No. 42 Akli took on No. 34 Solymar Colling of San Diego in the singles consolation semifinals. Colling got off to a strong start with a 6-0 win to take the first set. Akli tried to right the ship in the second set, but Collings earned a late service break to take the set 7-5 for the match win.

Prior to her semifinal loss, Akli had not lost a set in the consolation bracket. In the qualifying rounds, Akli tallied wins over Nos. 56, 63, and 77, and in the consolation Round of 16 she upset No. 17 Kari Miller of Michigan.

The Gamecocks next appearance will be at the ITA Carolina Regionals in Winston-Salem, N.C. Regional play will run from Oct. 13 through Oct. 17.
