CARY, N.C. – South Carolina men’s tennis sophomore Sean Daryabeigi and junior Lucas Andrade da Silva ended the Gamecocks’ run at the ITA Carolina Regional Championships at Cary Tennis Park today. The team will next be in action at the Wake Forest Invitational Nov. 1-3.
After three straight-set victories put Daryabeigi into the quarterfinals, the Gamecock sophomore was in a battle against No. 33 Braden Shick of NC State. A tight first set when Shick’s way with a late service break for a 7-5 decision, but Daryabeigi fought back to win the second set 6-2. The NC State senior put Daryabeigi behind early in the third and powered home the 6-2 victory.
Following back-to-back days of tough singles and doubles matches to open the tournament, da Silva did not have enough against No. 16 Pedro Rodenas of Duke on Sunday, falling to 6-1, 6-0.
Overall in the tournament’s main draws, South Carolina had two singles quarterfinalists for the second-straight season and had one doubles team in the Round of 16. The five Gamecocks in the singles main draw combined for a 12-5 record against the best players in North and South Carolina.
