TALLAHASSEE– The Florida State women’s tennis team (6-5. 1-2 ACC) fell to Miami 5-2 on Sunday.
“We fought our tails off today,” head coach Jen Hyde said. “A couple of points here and there can sway the match. They were just a little bit better today.”
The Hurricanees entered singles with a 1-0 lead after winning at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 doubles.
The Seminoles tied the match up 1-1 when senior Vic Allen won 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 at No. 2 singles against Daevenia Achong.
Miami responded with wins at No. 6, No. 5, and No. 1 to clinch the team win. The Canes won at No. 3 after the match was clinched.
Florida State ended the day with a win at No. 4 singles when junior Ellie Schoppe won 6-4, 6-7, 1-0 (14) after battling through a contested super tiebreaker in the third set.
Despite the loss, the Seminoles kept it close in every match. Every singles match had a set that was won or lost by two or fewer games or went into a third set. The attendance was great after a successful Night at the Net event last Thursday.
Florida State returns to action at home on Friday against Wake Forest at 4:30 p.m. Admission to matches at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center is free. Live stats will be available on Seminoles.com.
