Four Huskies Earn All-Pac-12 Honors

SEATTLE – One day before it takes the court in the NCAA Championship first round, the Husky women’s tennis team racked up four honors on the All-Pac-12 Team. Hikaru Sato was named to the First Team, Astrid Olsen and Erika Matsuda were voted to the Second Team, and Jennifer Kerr received honorable mention.
 
The 21st-ranked Huskies open their NCAA run on Friday at 10 a.m. Pacific time against Arkansas, on the courts of the Oklahoma Sooners.
 
The All-Pac-12 Teams are based on voting by the conference’s head coaches. The teams expanded this year from six first-teamers and six second-teamers, to twelve players on each team.
 
Sato, currently ranked 109th nationally, has been UW’s No. 1 singles player all season and also played most of the year at the No. 1 doubles spot. The senior from Tokyo has gone 11-11 overall at No. 1 singles and had key wins to help the Huskies to victories against Vanderbilt, Baylor, Arizona State, Arizona, San Diego, and Washington State. Sato now has 83 career singles wins, 35 as a Husky, plus 90 career doubles wins. This is her first All-Pac-12 Team honor.
 
Olsen, the Norwegian junior, played the majority of the season at No. 3 singles for the Huskies, making a big impact after injury and a redshirt season had kept her out of action the past couple years. Olsen is 16-7 in dual singles play and 24-8 overall on the year. She had an eight-match winning streak from Feb. 24 to Apr. 6 that included big wins over Baylor, UCLA, USC, Arizona State, Arizona, San Diego, and BYU. Olsen also has gone 9-10 in dual doubles matches, including an 8-6 mark with Jennifer Kerr. The two have won four in a row.
 
Erika Matsuda has helped the Huskies immensely in her freshman season. The native of Yokohama, Japan has played No. 5 and No. 6 singles for the Dawgs, going 15-5 in dual play. She improved as the year progressed, winning eight of her past nine singles matches. Matsuda also moved up to the No. 1 doubles spot to close the regular season teaming with Sato, and the two are ranked 72nd nationally even with just three completed matches.
 
Kerr has a team-high 17 dual victories for the Dawgs against just six defeats. The senior transfer from Columbia has played every match at the No. 4 position. She put together a 10-match…
