Birmingham, Ala. – The Southeastern Conference announced the 2024 women’s tennis postseason awards on Wednesday afternoon. Following another successful spring season under Head Coach Roland Thornqvist, Florida has four athletes recognized by the league: Rachel Gailis, Carly Briggs, Qavia Lopez, and Malwina Rowinska.
No. 7 Rachel Gailis was named to the First Team All-SEC Team after posting a 21-6, 9-2 SEC record. Gailis also tallied seven wins over nationally ranked-opponents. Her most notable wins of the season were against then-ranked No. 7 Ayana Akli and No. 8 Carolyn Anasari. Gailis was also tabbed as the SEC Player of the Week in the final week of regular season action.
No. 56 Carly Briggs was selected to the All-SEC Second Team holding an 8-2 conference record. Briggs most recently went undefeated at the SEC Tournament and had her highest-season win, defeating then-ranked No. 19 Nicole Khirin in the Semi-finals. With her outstanding efforts at the post-season tournament, Briggs was pinned to the All-Tournament team joining only four others in the conference.
Freshman powerhouse, Qavia Lopez has had an impressive first season with the Gators and was selected to the All-Freshman team. Lopez is the ninth Gator in program history to be named SEC Freshman of the Week twice, and the first Gator to earn the honor three times. Lopez finished SEC action with a 10-2 record and had her highest career ranking at No. 109 in March.
Malwina Rowinska was also named to the All-Freshman team. The freshman had an impressive season on the doubles side with partner Alicia Dudeney. The duo currently sits at No. 72 with a 5-1 overall record and went undefeated (5-0) in SEC action. The pair is also 3-1 against nationally ranked doubles teams. The biggest win for the Rowinska/Dudeney duo came after defeating then-ranked No. 36 Morgan Cross and Anet Koskel from Arkansas while unranked.
First-team and second-team All-SEC honorees, All-Freshman team, along with Player, Coach and Freshman of the Year were chosen by the league’s 14 coaches. Coaches cannot vote for their team or players, and ties are not broken.
