Florida Wraps ITA All-American Action


Florida closes ITA All-American play with four singles wins.

TULSA, Okla. – Florida men’s tennis wrapped a week of competition at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
 
No. 24 Jeremy Jin made a run through main draw singles recording two wins against ranked opponents to advance to the round of 16 for the first time in his career at Florida. Jin saw a tough opponent in No. 23 Samir Banerjee. Banerjee took the match in straight sets 6-4, 6-3. The sophomore competed in a consolation match against No. 14 Thomas Paulsell (Georgia). Jin secured the first set 6-3, but Paulsell responded with a 6-0 win to force a third. He ultimately dropped the final set 3-6 ending his ITA journey.
 
JanMagnus Johnson represented Florida in the prequalifying singles draw to open ITA action. Johnson logged a 6-1, 6-1 straight set victory against Giacomo Revelli (UCLA) to move on to the prequalifying round of 64. The Florida veteran battled against Santiago Giamichelle (UCF) in the first set but dropped 6(5)-7(7). Despite his efforts, Johnson also fell in the second set 3-6.
 
Tanapatt Nirundorn also opened ITA play in the prequalifying singles draw. Nirundorn faced Lincoln Battle (Cleveland State) and came up short dropping in straight sets 3-6, 4-6. Nirundorn won his consolation match against David Saye (Michigan) on a walkover due to injury.  He also competed alongside Jeremy Jin in the doubles competition. The duo, who is currently ranked at No. 37 faced No.26 Zsombor Velcz/ Devin Badenhorst and fell 2-6, 2-6. The pair saw No.73 Braden Shick/  Fons Van Sambeek in the consolation match and dropped 2-6, 4-6.
 
The Gators get right back to action next weekend as the team heads to Waco for the SEC/Big 12 Challenge hosted by Baylor University from Oct. 4-6.
