Florida Tennis Defeats Seminoles to Remain Undefeated

LAKE NONA, FL. – The No. 8 Florida women’s tennis team defeated Florida State 4-2 Saturday night at the USTA National Campus for the 2024 College MatchDay. The Gators victory over the Seminoles marked their fourth win of the spring season to put their record at 4-0.

The dynamic duo of Alicia Dudeney/Bente Spee secured a doubles win for the Gators defeating Vic Allen/ Ellie Schoppe 6-2. Partners Carly Briggs/Rachel Gailis also opened up with a victory in doubles going 6-2 over Laura Putz/ Millie Bisettt. The Freshman pair, Malwina Rowinska/Qavia Lopez were ahead 5-4 before the Gators clinched the doubles point to leave their contest unfinished and head into singles play.

Florida kept the momentum going into singles with immediate leads from Carly Briggs, Rachel Gailis, Alicia Dudeney, and Qavia Lopez, all taking their first sets. Dudeney tallied her second win of the day, earning a 6-3, 6-4 win versus Kristyna Lavickova, followed by Gailis defeating Anna Arkadianou 6-1, 7-5. The third singles win to clinch the College MatchDay for Florida came from Carly Briggs. The No. 38 ranked singles player, Briggs took down Vic Allen 7-6, 6-0 to ultimately give Florida the 4-2 victory.

Both Emily De Oliveira and Sophie Williams were edged by the Seminoles in the singles category. De Oliveira fell to Ellie Schoppe 7-5, 6-0 and Williams was defeated by Laura Putz 6-3, 6-3. After taking the first set 6-0, Qavia Lopez fought for the second but fell short 7-5 to Millie Bissett. Lopez and Bissett’s third set was cut short with the Gators securing their fourth…
