Five Vols Make Tennessee Debuts on Day One of Orlando Fall Shootout

ORLANDO, Fla – Seven members of the Tennessee men’s tennis team competed in the first day of the Orlando Fall Shootout Friday, with five Vols—Blaise Bicknell, Gabriele Brancatelli, Kent Hunter, Boris Kozlov and Tomas Rodriguez—donning the orange and white for the first time.
 
Tennessee faced members of Tulsa in both doubles and singles action during the morning session, finishing the day with a trio of singles matches against members of USF. In all, Tennessee won 10 of 12 matches on the day.
 
The Vols swept the doubles courts in the morning, with graduate student Hunter and sophomore Shunsuke Mitsui defeating Stefan Hampe and Daniel Siddall, 6-1. Court two saw senior Bicknell and sophomore Brancatelli take down Connor Di Marco and Timothy Carlsson Seger, 6-2. Tennessee graduate students Kozlov and Rodriguez earned a 6-1 win over Ezequiel Santalla and Gus Tettamble.
 
In singles action, Tennessee’s No. 94 Hunter earned his first singles win as a Vol with a straight-set decision over Tulsa’s Hampe, 6-2, 6-3. On court two, No. 115 Bicknell overpowered Santalla, 6-3, 6-2 in his first singles match at Tennessee.
 
Tennessee returner and 82nd-ranked Mitsui took a three-set win over Seger, 6-3, 5-7, 6-1. Rodriguez and Kozlov each logged their first singles wins at UT as well, with Rodriguez winning 7-5, 6-4 over Siddall and Kozlov taking down Tettamble, 6-1, 6-4.
 
The Vols added two more singles wins in the afternoon session, as Kozlov defeated USF’s Tom Pisane, 7-5, 6-1 and Rodriguez dominated the first set en route to a 6-0, 7-5 win over Samuel Frizelle of USF.
