Five Things to Know: Badgers visit Notre Dame

MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin men’s tennis team continues its road tour as the Badgers head South Bend, Indiana, for a road matchup against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Wisconsin (5-3) will play Notre Dame (5-3) at 11 p.m. CT on Saturday afternoon.

Here are five things you should know before this weekend:

1. Receiving Recognition: The Badgers got some recognition in the latest ITA Collegiate rankings with Gabriel Huber and Michael Minasyan coming in as the No. 21-ranked doubles team in the country, up four spots from their previous ranking at No. 24. So far this season the duo is 3-3 with two unfinished matches, winning matches against Old Dominion, Western Michigan and Alabama.

2. Series History: This is the first time since the 2015 season that the Badgers will match up against the Fighting Irish. The last time the two teams met was in South Bend when Wisconsin traveled to then-No. 16 Notre Dame team, losing 6-1. Overall, the Irish have the upper hand in the series with a 50-19 record against the Badgers, including a 27-8 record in South Bend. The Badgers will look to end a four-match losing streak against the Fighting Irish to close the series record gap and get back in the win column after a pair of tough road matches in Alabama last weekend.

3. Know the Opponent: The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are 5-3 to start the season with their losses coming at the hands of Illinois, Northwestern, and Kentucky. Of their five wins, two of them were sweeps over Chicago State and DePaul, a team that the Badgers beat this year 6-1. In the latest ITA rankings, the Irish hold the No. 23-ranked singles player in the country, Sebastian Dominiko. Dominiko, a freshman, is 3-2 in dual matches so far this season.
