MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Wisconsin tennis team continues with the second tournament of its fall schedule as it heads to Milwaukee to compete in the Milwaukee Tennis Classic. The event is scheduled to run Friday-Sunday at Milwaukee Country Club and the Wisconsin Club.
Here are five things to know before this weekend:
1. NATIONAL RECOGNITION: This weekend, Badger veterans Gabriel Huber and Michael Minasyan compete for the first time in the 2023 fall season. The pair is No. 12 on the ITA Top-60 Preseason National Doubles list, and consistently competed at the No. 1 spot during the 2022-23 season. The duo will begin play with an in-state matchup against Blake Roegner and Tin Krstulovic of Marquette, and will look to carry over the momentum they gained from their dominant performance last season.
2. FRESH FACES ON THE COURT: While Huber and Minasyan will provide experience to the Badger roster this weekend, freshmen Collin Beduhn and Tomas Zlatohlavek will look to prove themselves in the early stages of their collegiate careers. Beduhn competed for the first time at the SEC/Big Ten Challenge last week, partaking in three doubles and three singles matches. Zlatohlavek has not appeared in a match this season and will look to prove himself early on in his young career. The first years will begin the Milwaukee Tennis Classic competing alongside one another in a match against Anton Arzhankin and Benjamin George of Western Michigan.
3. A LOOK BACK AT 2022: Last fall, Wisconsin opened up its season at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic where it found success on the court. Graduate transfer Jason Hildebrandt made his season debut, advancing to both the doubles and singles semifinals matches. The team finished with six total wins at the end of last year’s tournament.
