Five Tar Heel Men Earn Preseason Rankings From ITA


Five University of North Carolina men’s tennis players earned 2023-24 preseason rankings from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Tuesday.

Comprised of the top 125 singles rankings, top 60 doubles rankings and top 10 newcomer rankings, today’s preseason rankings mark the start of the 2023-24 college tennis season with events such as the ITA Regional Championships, ITA All-American Championships and ITA Fall National Championships right around the corner.

In the preseason singles rankings, sophomore Will Jansen is the highest-ranked Tar Heel at #70, followed by graduate student Karl Poling at #93 and graduate student Anuj Watane at #106.

On the doubles side, UNC junior Casey Kania and sophomore Benjamin Kittay came in at #20.

The Tar Heels will begin their schedule later this month on Sept. 22-24 in Chapel Hill at the Tom Chewning Fall Invitational at the Chewning Tennis Center.
