Five Jackets Named to All-ACC Academic Team – Men’s Tennis — Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis was well represented on the 2023 All-ACC Academic Team announced on Wednesday, placing five Yellow Jackets on the list.

Led by three-time honoree Andres Martin (Flowery Branch, Ga./Georgia Connections Academy), Georgia Tech also named Keshav Chopra (Marietta, Ga./IMG Academy), Marcus McDaniel (Vacaville, Calif./Ernest Kimmie), Brandon McKinney (Marietta, Ga./Johnson Ferry Christian Academy) and Elias Shokry (Marietta, Ga./Georgia Connections Academy) to the prestigious team.

To be named to the all-academic team, a student-athlete must have a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative grade point average during one’s academic career. In addition, student-athletes must compete in at least 50 percent of their team’s contests. The 2023 all-academic team boasts 68 student-athletes from the ACC’s 13 men’s tennis programs.

Receiving the honor for the second time, Chopra produced a 20-11 overall singles record that included an 18-8 dual ledger, mainly from the No. 3 singles position. A business administration major, Chopra went 9-3 against league opponents, proving victorious in four of his final five matches. In doubles, he partnered with Martin to closeout the spring slate as the duo went 5-0 on the season.

An ITA All-American in both singles and doubles, Martin led Tech from the top singles position and posted a 27-8 overall record. The industrial engineering major went 21-5 in dual action and 9-2 against ACC opponents. He reached the semifinals of the NCAA Doubles Championship with teammate McDaniel and was also seeded sixth in the NCAA Singles Championship.

A mainstay at the No. 2 singles position, McDaniel compiled a 24-11 overall singles record this season. He went 18-7 in dual action and earned a bid to the NCAA Doubles Championship with Martin, making a run to the quarterfinals to garner ITA All-American honors. This marks the second all-acc academic team honor for McDaniel who also earned the honor in 2022.

McKinney, a business administration major, helped lead Tech in its doubles lineup, collecting eight wins from the No. 2 and No. 3 slots. He partnered with McDaniel and Shokry to closeout the season, winning two of the final four matches with McDaniel.

Rounding out Tech’s representation on the list, Shokry concluded an impressive freshman campaign on The Flats with 14 singles wins and 12 doubles victories. He pocketed seven singles wins from the No. 5 position and went 5-5 in…
