Five Blue Devils Listed in Final ITA Singles Ledger


DURHAM – The Duke women’s tennis team featured five Blue Devils in the final 2023-24 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) singles rankings, as announced by the organization this week.  Freshman Shavit Kimchi (#72), junior Emma Jackson (#81), sophomore Katie Codd (#96), junior Ellie Coleman (#102) and graduate student Iuliia Bryzgalova (#111) were listed.
 
Kimchi turned in an impressive freshman campaign for the Blue Devils with 17 singles victories, including five against nationally-ranked opponents.  The five-time ACC Freshman of the Week selection registered eight ACC Singles wins and received an invitation to compete in the NCAA Singles Championship.  A native of Sdey Hemed, Israel, Kimchi opened her collegiate career with three top-30 victories over her first four career matches.  In ACC action, she turned in a key win over 51st-ranked Abigail Rencheli on the road at N.C. State to help lead the Blue Devils to a win over the No. 14 Wolfpack. 
 
A product of La Grange, Park., Ill., Jackson also registered 17 singles wins on the season, including five in ACC play at the No. 1 and No. 2 slots.  She garnered her best win of the season on the road at Miami as she downed 10th-ranked Alexa Noel, who went on to win the 2024 NCAA Singles Championship, in three sets.  Jackson collected a total of seven ranked wins on the year and owns 62 wins over her career with the Blue Devils.
 
Another bright spot for Duke this season was the emergence of Codd, a sophomore from Carlsbad, Calif.  After seeing limited action as a rookie, she collected an 18-8 ledger this season, including two ranked wins.  Codd posted her best win of the season against 12th-ranked Celia Belle Mohr of Vanderbilt in the fall.  She posted six ACC wins and went 11-2 at the No. 4 singles slot.  Codd won seven out of her final nine matches to conclude the season. 
 
Limited to only six dual matches on the season due to injury, Coleman finished the year with a 10-8 record.  She collected a pair of ranked wins, including a victory over 16th-ranked Irina Cantos Siemers of Ohio State.  A native of Midland, Mich., Coleman now owns a 58-32 ledger over her career. 
 
Winner of 10 out of her final 12 matches of her collegiate career, Bryzgalova totaled 14 wins on the season.  She went a perfect, 3-0, against ranked opponents and…
