France’s Arthur Fils has been the youngest player in the ATP’s Top-50 for a while now. As of Monday he’s now officially the youngest player in the Top-20! The 20-year-old took out Alexander Zverev to win his maiden ATP 500 title on Sunday in Hamburg, and rises eight spots to a career-high No.20 in the rankings as a result.
Fils will next appear in Paris where he will join Team France in the Olympic Singles tennis event, which starts this weekend.
He’s not the only player surging up the rankings this week. Portugal’s Nuno Borges, who defeated Rafael Nadal in the Bastad title on Sunday for his maiden ATP title, rises nine spots to make a career-high ranking at No.42.
One of nine ATP players to claim a first title in 2024, the 27-year-old is just the second man from his country to win an ATP title.
Berrettini Biggest Riser
On the heels of his title at Gstaad, former World No.6 Matteo Berrettini has jumped 32 spots to take his place in the Top-50 once again. The 28-year-old, who defeated Quentin Halys in the final on Sunday at Gstaad, now has nine ATP titles to his name.
He was outside of the Top-150 as recently as March, but a string of strong results have put him in the mix again.
Berrettini is 16-6 on the season and back in the Top-50 for the first time since August of 2023.
American Marcos Giron also clicks a career-high this week. The 30-year-old won his maiden ATP title on Sunday in Newport, and rises eight spots to his new perch. The former NCAA champion at UCLA is the sixth-ranked American, behind Frances Tiafoe (29), Sebastian Korda (23), Ben Shelton (14), Tommy Paul (13) and Taylor Fritz (110).
