CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Eight current Illinois men’s tennis members and one alumni will participate in the Fighting Illini Open, a men’s tennis 25K Tournament on the International Tennis Federation World Tour, starting on Monday at the Atkins Tennis Center.
Atkins has hosted this tournament the past three years starting in 2019, before COVID-19 canceled the 2020 bid. It was picked back up in 2021 and has continued since.
The tournament begins Monday, July 17, with the singles qualifying draw, and will conclude Sunday, July 23, with the singles final. The doubles final will take place Saturday. The event includes $25,000 in total prize money.
Current members Tyler Bowers, Gabrielius Guzauskas, Lucas Horve, Alex Petrov (all representing the United States) and Oliver Okonkwo (Great Britain) and alumnus Alex Brown (representing the United States) will all participate in the singles draw.
Hunter Heck (United States), Kenta Miyoshi (Japan) and Karlis Ozolins (Lativia) will be participating in the main draw that begins on Tuesday, July 18 or Wednesday, July 19, depending on the draw.
Horve will start the action for the Illini on Monday morning at 10 a.m. when he faces Kareem Al Allaf.
