Fall 2023 season recap | Wisconsin Badgers


MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin men’s tennis team competed in five tournaments this fall season, and prepared for the duals season beginning January 13 in Miami. 

The Badgers participated in the SEC/Big Ten Challenge, Milwaukee Tennis Classic, ITA All-American Championships, ITA Midwest Regional Championships and Big Ten Individual Championships. 

Here’s a look back at the tournament results.

SEC/Big Ten Challenge 

Sept. 15-17, 2023

Tuscaloosa, Ala. (Alabama Tennis Stadium)

The team began its fall season at the SEC/Big Ten Challenge where it faced Alabama, Ole Miss and Auburn. Wisconsin, Michigan and Purdue represented the Big Ten Conference at this event. Mihailo Popovic, along with freshmen Collin Beduhn, Matthew Fullerton and Oliver Olsson traveled down to Alabama for the tournament. 

Fullerton found success in his first collegiate matches, winning his first two singles matches, and leading the Badgers in singles wins. Fullerton defeated Alabama’s Yair Sarouk 3-6, 7-6, 7-6 on Friday and Ole Miss’ Gordon Whitwell 5-7, 6-4, 6-1. One area in which the Badgers struggled was in doubles play, as the team went 0-6. 

Milwaukee Tennis Classic

Sept. 22-24, 2023

Milwaukee, Wis. (Milwaukee Country Club)

Beduhn, Gabriel Huber, Michael Minasyan and Tomas Zlatohlavek made the trip up I-95 to the Milwaukee Tennis Classic where they competed against players from Denver, Marquette, Navy, Nebraska, SMU, South Alabama, Western Michigan and Yale.

Playing in his first tournament of the season, Huber showed off his four years of experience, winning three singles matches, the most of anyone on the Badger roster, as well as one doubles match with Minasyan. The No. 12 ITA Preseason Doubles partners  won their first match back on the court together, 6-2, against Blake Roegner and Tin Krstulovic of Marquette

Zlatohlavek made his debut at this tournament and dropped his first match to Louis Cloud (SMU) 6-4, 6-1 before earning two wins against Leo Lopez Linquet (Nebraska) 6-3, 6-3 and Tin Krstulovic (Marquette) 6-3, 6-3.

ITA All-American Championships

Oct. 2-8, 2023

Tulsa, OK (The University of Tulsa & LaFortune Tennis Park)

Huber, Minasayan and Popovic, the No. 83 ITA Preseason Singles player, headed down to Oklahoma for the ITA All-American Championships. Wisconsin was faced with tough competition and went 0-5 in singles matches….
