Duong, Yeah Named Big Ten All-Conference; Treiber Earns Sportsmanship Honor

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Fighting Illini women’s tennis saw three student-athletes recognized by the Big Ten with All-Conference and Sportsmanship Award honors on Wednesday. Kate Duong and Ashley Yeah were named to the All-Big Ten Team while Kasia Treiber was tabbed a Sportsmanship Award honoree.

Playing at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, Duong posted an 11-12 record as an individual and a 24-6 record when working as part of a tandem. The junior from Cupertino, Calif., has worked with Megan Heuser to climb as high as No. 7 in the country as a doubles team. That mark is the best by a doubles unit in Illini program history.

Yeah has held down the No. 2 singles spot for the Orange and Blue while bouncing between the No. 2 and 3 doubles courts. The Los Gatos, Calif., native owns a 16-12 overall singles record including a 3-3 mark against nationally ranked opposition. Yeah has been ranked as high as No. 70, spending her whole senior campaign in the ITA singles rankings. On the doubles courts, Yeah has teamed up with five different teammates to compile an 11-10 record.

Illini sophomore Treiber was the Illini representative on the league’s Sportsmanship Award list. The Hinsdale, Ill., native played primarily at the No. 5 singles spot while earning just a couple (2-0) doubles decisions on the dual season at No. 3. Treiber has racked up a match for the team-best record of 16-11 in singles, including a 6-1 mark in Big Ten play.

The Illini trio helped Evan Clark‘s squad to a 17-8 overall record and third place finish in the Big Ten regular season after going 8-3.

Illinois kicks off postseason play on Friday night from West Lafayette, Ind., as Purdue hosts the Big Ten Women’s Tennis Tournament. No. 3 seed UI will face the winner of Iowa and Indiana at 5 p.m. CT, on Friday. Action will be streamed on B1G+.
