GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke’s Chloe Beck and North Carolina’s Anika Yarlagadda were named Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Co-Players of the Week, while the Tar Heels’ Reese Brantmeier earned her second ACC Freshman of the Week honor as North Carolina won its fourth straight ITA Indoor National Championship.
No. 5 Beck recorded a 3-0 weekend at the No. 1 singles position, with a two-set victory over sixth-ranked Stanford’s No. 3 Connie Ma, 6-4, 6-3. Her two set victory over Washington clinched the match for the Blue Devils, who went 2-1 on the week. Beck and her partner were leading all three of their doubles matches, 4-2, 4-3, 5-3, before the doubles point was clinched.
No. 18 Yarlagadda posted a 3-1 singles record for the Tar Heels at the ITA National Indoor Championships at the No. 6 spot. She defeated her opponent from Pepperdine 6-2, 6-0, Michigan 6-3, 6-4, and Georgia, 6-1, 6-2, to guide North Carolina to an undefeated 4-0 weekend.
Brantmeier also helped lift North Carolina at the ITA National Indoor Championships with a 2-0 week at the No. 2 singles spot, as the 122nd-ranked freshman defeated No. 20 Janice Tjen of Pepperdine, 6-4, 1-6, 6-1, and No. 8 Mary Stoiana of Texas A&M, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4. She added two doubles wins to her resume, teaming up with Elizabeth Scotty as the 32nd-ranked pair defeated No. 4 Janice Tjen and Savannah Broadus of Pepperdine and the duo from Georgia, 7-6 (8-6).
