CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke’s Pedro Rodenas was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, while he and his teammate Garrett Johns earned Doubles Team of the Week honors for the third time this season. Virginia’s Dylan Dietrich picked up his first career weekly accolade as the Freshman of the Week.
Rodenas finished 4-0 on the week with two ranked singles wins and two ranked doubles victories. At No. 2 singles, the sophomore defeated Wake Forest’s No. 69 DK Suresh Ekambaram in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4, before taking down NC State’s No. 79 Braden Shick, 6-1, 6-4. The Madrid, Spain, native is now ranked No. 43 in the nation in the latest ITA rankings released Tuesday. With Johns against the Demon Deacons, their 7-6 (2) victory over the No. 1 team in the nation DK Suresh Ekambaram and Holden Koons clinched the doubles point for Duke and helped the Blue Devils hand Wake Forest its first home loss of the year. Then on Sunday, they defeated NC State’s No. 72 Martin Borisiouk and Joseph Wayand, 6-4. The duo is now ranked No. 1 in the nation in the latest ITA rankings.

The freshman teamed with Alex Kiefer to record an undefeated weekend in doubles with a 6-1 win against Clemson’s Marko Mesarovic and Matt Pitts, before fighting through a tiebreaker against Georgia Tech’s Keshav Chopra and Elias Shokry for the 7-6 (4) win to clinch the doubles point.
