Duke Secures Five Wins in Saturday’s Action in Chapel Hill


DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke women’s tennis team secured five victories on the second day of action at the Kitty Harrison Invitational on Saturday at the Chewning Tennis Center.  A pair of singles ranked victories along with a double win highlighted the action. 
 
Duke senior Ellie Coleman, who is preseason ranked No. 53 nationally, started things off on court one with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over 103rd-ranked Alicia Dudeney of Florida to move to 2-0 on the season.  It marked Coleman’s 60th career singles win.  Duke’s 49th-ranked Katie Codd also registered her second win in as many days with a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Florida’s 122nd-ranked Talia Nielsen-Gatenby. Emma Jackson, who is ranked No. 41, moved to 2-0 on the weekend with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Noemi Oliveras.  Duke’s 38th-ranked Shavit Kimchi dropped a 6-7 (3), 7-6 (4), 1-0 (3) match versus Purdue’s Ece Gencer. 
 
Freshman Ava Krug closed the singles action with her first singles win as a Blue Devil with a 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (7) win versus Kathryn Wilson of Purdue. 
 
Duke and Florida faced off in three doubles matches Saturday with the Gators taking two of the three.  The lone win came by Eleana Yu and Coleman with a 6-4 win against the Gators’ 66th-ranked Nielson-Gatenby/Qavia Lopez. 
 
The Blue Devil tandem of Jackson/Kimchi dropped a 6-4 decision to Dudeney/Bente Spee, while Krug/Codd fell, 6-4, to Nikola Daubnerova/Oliveras. 
 
Duke is scheduled to take on Old Dominion Sunday beginning at 1:30 p.m., on courts 7-12.
