DURHAM – Duke concluded the 2023 season ranked No. 11 in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Collegiate Tennis Rankings, the organization announced this week.
The ranking marks Duke’s highest since finishing the 2015 season No. 10 in the final ITA poll.
The Blue Devils made their 30th overall appearance in the NCAA tournament earlier this month and their 28th showing in the last 31 seasons. In addition, Duke hosted an NCAA regional for the first time since 2015 and finished with its best overall mark since that season.
The Blue Devils registered seven wins over top-25 ranked opponents, including a 5-2 victory over No. 13 North Carolina on April 8. That win handed the Blue Devils their second consecutive victory over the Tar Heels. Additionally, the team strung together a nine-match winning streak from March 24-April 22.
Duke garnered two major conference awards at the end of the season in the 2023 ACC Coach and Rookie of the Year. Head coach Ramsey Smith earned the coach of the year honor for the first time in his 15-year Duke career, while Pedro Rodenas became the first Duke player to earn rookie of the year nods since Henrique Cunha did so in 2010. Rodenas and senior Garrett Johns also represented the Blue Devils during the 2023 NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship this month.
Virginia, the 2023 National Champions, garnered the top spot, followed by Ohio State, Texas, TCU, and Kentucky closing out the top-five.
