DURHAM – Following Wednesday’s Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Kickoff Weekend Draft, No. 21 Duke is set to compete in the Winston-Salem Regional, hosted by Wake Forest University.
The No. 3 seeded Blue Devils will face off against second-seeded and No. 20 ranked Middle Tennessee on Friday, Jan. 27 at the Wake Forest Tennis Center. No. 9 ranked Wake Forest, the top seed and regional host site, will take on fourth-seeded and No. 23 ranked Auburn in the opening round. Times have yet to be determined. The Winston-Salem Regional is the only grouping that consists of four top-25 ranked programs.
The winners of each match will advance to the championship on Saturday, Jan. 28. There will also be a consolation match played on Saturday. The regional winner then advances to the 2023 ITA Indoor National Championships, in Champaign, Ill.
The Blue Devils competed in last year’s ITA Kickoff Weekend in Columbia, S.C., dropping the regional final to No. 13 and host South Carolina, 4-3. Heading into this year’s event, Duke has won eight of its last 13 ITA Kickoff matches.
Wake Forest concluded the 2022 dual season with a 33-7 record, while Middle Tennessee and Auburn finished with dual marks of 28-5 and 21-11, respectively.
