Duke Drops Decision to No. 4 TCU in NCAA Round of 16

FORT WORTH, Texas – No. 13 Duke fell 4-0 on Saturday to No. 4 TCU in the NCAA Team Championship Round of 16 at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
 
With the loss, the Blue Devils concluded their team season with an overall record of 20-10. Duke will still send redshirt senior Garrett Johns and sophomore Pedro Rodenas to the 2024 NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship, which runs May 20-25 at the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Okla. The Horned Frogs (25-4) advance to the NCAA quarterfinal round.

How It Happened

  • The Horned Frogs jumped on things early in doubles action with No. 63 Jake Fearnley and Pedro Vives defeating No. 1 Johns and Rodenas, 6-2, on court one. TCU then clinched the doubles point on court two when Sebastian Gorzny and Jack Pinnington bested Michael Heller and Andrew Zhang, 7-5. The match between Faris Khan and Teddy Truwit against Duncan Chan and Lui Maxted on court three went unfinished with the teams knotted at 5-5.
  • TCU increased its advantage to 2-0 in singles play after No. 7 Fearnley earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory over No. 43 Rodenas on court two.
  • No. 13 Pinnington added to the Horned Frogs’ edge on the top court when he bested No. 21 Johns 6-2, 6-1.
  • No. 78 Maxted then clinched the overall match for the home side on court five after he posted 6-2, 6-1 wins over Khan.
  • The matches on court three, four and six all went unfinished.
