Duke Caps Opening Weekend with Two Victories


CARY, N.C. – Duke men’s tennis finished its opening weekend of the Duke James Bonk Invitational with two singles victories. 
 
Junior Andrew Dale and sophomore Jake Krug both eased to singles wins during the final day of the three-day tournament. Dale defeated Ivan Dreycopp of Charlotte 6-3, 6-2, while Krug bested ETSU’s Pedro Cressoni 6-2, 6-1.

The No. 2 seed in the A draw, Andrew Zhang, fell to the No. 1 seed Dan Martin of Miami in the finals 6-3, 7-5.

The Blue Devils also wrapped up doubles action on Sunday. Dale and Zhang dropped a 7-5 decision to Dan Martin and Juan Jalif of Miami in the A draw finals. On the opposite side of the A draw bracket, Faris Khan and Krug fell in a nailbiter 7-6 (10) to Elon’s Daniel Martin and Nicholas Campbell in the consolation finals match.

Some members of the Duke team will compete on the professional circuit at the ATP Charleston Challenger on Sunday, Sept. 25.
