DURHAM – Duke men’s tennis is back in action this weekend for two additional non-conference matches with East Tennessee State and No. 2 Kentucky.
The Blue Devils welcome the Bucs at 4 p.m., on Friday to Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center before traveling to No. 2 Kentucky on Sunday for a noon contest at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex. Parking for Friday is available in the Blue Zone. To view the map, click HERE (PDF).
During its last outing, Duke dropped a nailbiter to No. 23 Northwestern, 4-3. The Blue Devils led 3-1 with three matches remaining but weren’t able to register one final win to finish off the victory.
No. 88 Pedro Rodenas continued his impressive start to his rookie season with another win last Sunday and shifted to 8-0 in dual singles play. No. 6 Garrett Johns is Duke’s other ranked singles player and sits with a 6-2 mark on the Blue Devils’ top court. The senior duo of Michael Heller and Andrew Zhang also bring their 4-1 record on court one in doubles action into the weekend.
HISTORY WITH ETSU
Friday’s contest will be the third all-time meeting between the two programs with the Blue Devils holding the 2-0 edge on the series. Duke recorded a 5-2 victory during the teams last meeting on Feb. 12, 2021 in Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center.
SCOUTING THE BUCS
East Tennessee State sits at 0-6 on the year, with three of those losses coming against Power 5 opposition. The freshman-junior doubles pair of Peter Kalocsai and Thiago Pernas are 3-1 on the year to lead the Bucs. Redshirt junior Dimitri Badra has registered a 2-1 record on court one during singles action to pace the team.
HISTORY WITH NO. 2 KENTUCKY
The Blue Devils and Wildcats have faced off 23 previous times with Duke leading the all-time series at 14-9. Kentucky has won the last two meeting between these programs with the Blue Devils’ last victory coming on Feb. 9, 2020 following a 4-1 win in Durham.
