Ducks Survive and Advance at Pac-12s

OJAI, Calif. – Oregon bounced back from dropping the doubles point with four victories in singles to knock off Colorado, 4-3, in the opening round of the Pac-12 Championships on Wednesday at the Ojai Valley Athletic Club.
 
Uxia Martinez Moral delivered the clincher in the deciding singles match, coming away with a 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 win over the Buffaloes’ Mila Stanojevic at the No. 5 spot to put the Ducks over the top.
 
How It Happened: Tied at 2-2 in the deciding set, Martinez Moral held to go up 3-2 before delivering a huge break to open up a 4-2 lead. The two players traded the next two games to make it 5-3 before Martinez Moral held serve to complete the victory.
 
UO put up its first three points of singles in speedy fashion, as Karin Young, Ares Teixido Garcia and Sophie Luescher all put away their matches in straight sets to make it 3-1, Ducks. Young tied it up at one with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the No. 4 spot shortly before Teixido Garcia locked up a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 3 after coming back from down 4-1 in the second set to secure the sweep. Luescher locked up at win at No. 1 moments later with a 6-2, 6-1 victory to put the Ducks a point away.
 
The Ducks fell behind 1-0 after dropping the doubles point. UO lost 6-2 at the No. 2 spot before Luescher and Martinez Moral fell, 6-4, cutting a 5-1 deficit to 5-4 before falling just…
