EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon women’s tennis team heads to Stanford, Calif., for the ITA Northwest Regional Championships, which begins Friday at the Taube Family Tennis Center on the campus of Stanford University.
The four-day event gets underway at 8:30 a.m. PT with the doubles round of 64 before singles play starts later in the day with the round of 128. All eight Ducks on this year’s roster will play in the event, which is UO’s second of the fall season after hosting the Duck Invitational last weekend.
Oregon posted a combined 10-2 singles record with a 6-1 doubles mark at the Duck Invitational, including 3-0 singles records by both Sophie Luescher and Karin Young.
Luescher and Uxia Martinez Moral enter the fall campaign ranked as the No. 56 doubles pair in the country, as the duo won their only match paired together last weekend. Freshman Candela Aparisi and Young will be doubles partners, as will sophomore Jo-Yee Chan and fifth-year senior Nina Geissler. Newcomers Tilde Jagare and Olivia Symons, both making their UO debuts, will be paired together.
Luescher, a junior, has reached the quarterfinals of the doubles bracket and third round in singles at the ITA Northwest Regionals each of the last two years. Last year, Chan won a pair of doubles and singles matches at the event.
