LAS VEGAS – The Oregon women’s tennis team concluded day two of the Watanabe Classic Saturday, as Lillian Mould and Karin Young each logged singles victories while Ares Teixido Garcia and Young earned a doubles win at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
Young bested Utah’s Katarina Hersh, 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 to move on to the consolation final of her flight, earning her a fifth-place finish in the eight-person bracket. Mould advanced to consolation final of her flight with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-0 victory over Anya Lamoreaux of Iowa. Mould will take on Long Beach State’s Peppi Ramstedt at 11 a.m.
Young and Teixido Garcia were victorious in the consolation semifinal against Long Beach State’s Sarah Medik and Mathilde Tranberg, 6-2. In the consolation final, the tandem will take on Samantha Horwood and Katya Hersh from Utah at 10 a.m.
Myah Petchy, who won her opening match Friday to advance to the semifinal round of her flight, will play in the third-place match Sunday at 11 a.m. PT against Molly Helgesson from UNLV after dropping a three-set decision to San Diego State’s Andjela Skrobonja, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
In her singles flight, Teixido Garcia fell to UNLV’s Zita Kovacs, 6-3, 6-3. Teixido Garcia will match up with Rhona Cook of LBSU in the seventh-place tilt at 11 a.m.
On the doubles side, Petchey and Mould fell to Iowa’s duo of Samantha Mannix and Marisa Schmidt, 7-6. The Duck duo will meet up with Rhona Cook and Sheena Masuda from LBSU at 10 a.m. in the seventh-place match.
