LOS ANGELES – The Oregon women’s tennis team wrapped up the opening day of the Dennis Rizza Classic at the Jack Kramer Club in Los Angeles Friday, as four Ducks competed in both singles and doubles play at the annual tournament.

Head coach Courtney Nagle‘s quartet of Jo-Yee Chan, Uxia Martinez Moral, Madisen Olsen and Karin Young went winless in singles while the doubles teams of Olsen/Young and Chan/Martinez Moral each lost their opening round matchups.

In the singles bracket, Marinez Moral and Young each forced a third set against their respective opponents, but ultimately all four singles matches ended up going the opposition’s way.

Martinez Moral rebounded from a 6-3 opening-set loss to Loyola Marymount’s Sofia Munera to take the second, 6-2, before Munera earned the third-set victory, 6-3. Facing McKenna Koerig out of USC, Young managed a 7-5 first-set win before seeing Koerig take sets two and three, 6-3, 6-2.

Olsen suffered a 6-1, 6-0 straight-set defeat at the hands of Arizona’s Parker Fry and Chan, a freshman, was ousted by UCLA’s Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer, 6-3, 7-6 (5).

The singles draw continues Saturday with the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds at 10 a.m., while doubles quarterfinal and semifinal action begins at 1 p.m.
