In January there was cause for celebration when Australia’s Alex de Minaur cracked the Top 10. At the time, the Sydney sider became the first Aussie since Lleyton Hewitt in 2006 to hold a Top-10 ranking.
The party continues this week for the man they call the Demon. The 25-year-old old rises to a career-high No.7 in the rankings after claiming the title in ‘s-Hertogenbosch on Sunday (his 9th ATP title, and second of 2024).
De Minaur, now 33-11 on the season, is currently sixth in the ATP’s Race to Turin standings.
De Minaur wasn’t the only big riser this week in the ATP rankings.
On the strength of his title in Stuttgart, Jack Draper makes his Top-30 debut on Monday (+10) and is the top-ranked Brit for the first time. The 22-year-old southpaw is the youngest man to achieve that feat since Andy Murray in 2009.
Draper took out Matteo Berrettini in Sunday’s Stuttgart final to become the eighth first-time winner on the ATP Tour this season.
Berrettini himself rises 30 spots to No.65, on the strength of his performance in Stuttgart.
Also making big jumps were Italy’s Luciano Darderi, who won the Perugia challenger title and jumped from 41 to 34, and Perugia runner-up Sumit Nagal, who jumps from No.77 to No.71. Both players sit at career high rankings this week.
France’s Hugo Gaston jumps 13 spots after winning a challenger title in Lyon.
