Day Two Of the ITA All-American Championships


CARY, N.C. – Mississippi State women’s tennis had one player participate in the pre-qualifying round of the ITA All-American Championships. 
 
Qualifying for the ITA All-American Championships will begin on Monday and the main draw starts on Wednesday. No. 52 Emmanouela Antonaki received a bye during the pre-qualifying rounds. 
 
Gia Cohen took part in the consolation round where was up against Emma Shelton of Florida. Shelton took the first set 6-1, but Cohen fought back and took the second set 6-2. Shelton ultimately came back to take the match 6-3. 
 
“Today was tough day,” associate head coach Sachin Kirtane said. “Gia [Cohen] has a slow start, but gave herself a chance to win in the end. Excited to watch what Gia and Emmanouela [Antonaki] can do it doubles tomorrow.” 
 
Antonaki and Cohen will participate in the doubles portion of the tournament, which starts on Monday. 
 
The ITA All-American Championships are the second tournament State has participated in this fall. For Cohen and Antonaki this is the first tournament of the fall they have participated in.
