SEATTLE — Sixty-four teams are ready to take their best shots in the 2022 NCAA Women’s Tennis Championships starting tomorrow morning, and Washington will be up early for its first round challenge. The Huskies, returning to NCAAs for the first time since 2019, are set to face Baylor Friday morning at 8 a.m. Pacific time, 10 a.m. local time, in College Station, Texas. The Huskies, ranked 39th, take on the 27th-ranked Bears at Texas A&M’s George P. Mitchell Tennis Center. Following that match, the Aggies take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in another first round dual. The winners of each match will then play on Saturday, May 7, at 11 a.m. Pacific in the second round.
The winner of Saturday’s second round advances to super-regional competition May 13 or 14. Each super-regional site will feature two teams playing a single-elimination format. The super-regional winners advance to the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Champaign, Illinois, where the eight teams will compete for the national championship May 20-22.
Washington has been battling through injuries late in the year but achieved its primary goal of reaching the NCAA tournament, where it last made a run to the Round of 16 in 2019. This is the third NCAA trip under Head Coach Robin Stephenson. UW went 14-11 on the year, led by All-Pac-12 Second Team selection Vanessa Wong, who played No. 1 singles and compiled a 11-9 record at the spot and honorable mention All-Pac-12 picks Sarah-Maude Fortin and Nika Zupancic.
